Hello!
My name is Faye and I’m a picky eater. I’m not your average picky eater though. My dietary restrictions have grown from a variety of different reasons – some health related, some personal. We’re talking food allergies, intolerances, Insulin Resistance (thank you PCOS!) as well as ethics and personal values. There’s really no central criteria here except one woman’s personal search for health and happiness. And I know some of you relate to this!
I was vegan for many years, starting when I was 16 years old. Because I came from a typical meat and potatoes British diet, I quickly had to fend for myself in the family kitchen and learn how to think outside the box. These days my diet seems to be constantly evolving as I discover more about my body and what it likes (or rather, doesn’t like!). This has predominantly meant cutting out wheat, starches and limiting sugar intake. In recent years I’ve also added eggs and fish back into my diet to help with my energy levels, so I don’t fit the vegan category anymore. I have a passion for weightlifting and hill running (it helps with Insulin Resistance too) and found that my body really benefits from that small animal protein boost.
So as you can see, there’s no clear label for this diet!
Thankfully I’ve always loved cooking and getting busy in the kitchen. I hate having to miss out on my favourite dishes, so I’ve been determined to find healthy alternatives that still taste great. And over the years I’ve come up with a few gems! So why keep those to myself?
I created this website primarily from a desire to share my kitchen creations with others. However, I realize that some people have diet restrictions that are even trickier to navigate than mine, so I hope to create a space dedicated to learning about food and creating innovative solutions.
I’m not a professional chef and wouldn’t class myself as an expert. I’m just a woman with a creative mind who loves learning and working with food. I’m also passionate about sharing what knowledge I’ve gained over the years with other fellow picky eaters, who might be struggling to find answers and alternatives.
If you have a particular dietary requirement that you’d like to see incorporated into a recipe somewhere, then shout out and let me know!
Most of the recipes that you’ll find on here are dairy free, wheat free, and mostly meat free – because that’s what I eat and what I’m used to. However, I’ve also tried to incorporate some recipes that are completely vegan, gluten free, soy free, nut free and coconut free, because I know these are common allergies and intolerances. This is an area I’ll be focusing more on in the future, so keep your eyes peeled!
So for all of you fellow picky eaters and health seekers who are tearing your hair out looking for something suitable to eat, this one’s for you!
